Working HebCelt Festival
HebCelt (Lews Castle Grounds, Stornoway, Isle of Lewis) takes a crew of bar staff, stewards, build hands, catering and more to run four days on the island. The contractors who supply bars, stages, fencing, power and toilets recruit in the weeks before the July dates. Pick your role:

HebCelt Festival jobs - what's on offer
Bar staff. HebCelt runs multiple licensed bars serving a 5,000-capacity crowd across outdoor areas and covered spaces within the Lews Castle Grounds. Bar staff typically earn £11.50-14/hr or £90-120/day depending on the contractor and shift pattern. The indoor/outdoor split means some positions are sheltered, some are not - Lewis weather in July can go either way.
Stewards. Gate crew and crowd management across the festival site. Stewards manage entry points, patrol the grounds and assist with crowd flow around the castle estate. Day rates typically run £90-110.
Build crew. Temporary staging, fencing and site structures are assembled and struck around the festival dates. Build crew on the castle grounds typically earn £100-130/day. Crew chiefs and site managers earn £140-200/day. Given the island location, build runs are often combined into a single trip covering assembly and post-festival strike.
Catering crew. Food and drink concessions across the site need staffing for the full festival run. Rates vary by operator and experience.
Getting to HebCelt - how crew travel
The island location is what makes HebCelt distinctive for crew. Stornoway is not reachable by road - you cross water to get there.
CalMac ferry. The main route is the CalMac crossing from Ullapool on the Scottish mainland to Stornoway Ferry Terminal. The crossing takes around 2hr 45min. July sailings book up fast - lock in your crossing via calmac.co.uk as soon as your work dates are confirmed. Morning sailings into Stornoway give you a full arrival day before build starts.
Loganair flights. Alternatively, Loganair fly from Glasgow to Stornoway in around 1 hour, and from Inverness to Stornoway in around 40 minutes. Useful if the ferry timing doesn't fit your schedule or you're travelling with tools and bag rather than a full van.
Staying on island. Most crew working a 4-day festival travel once and stay for the full week rather than commuting. Accommodation in Stornoway ranges from B&Bs and self-catering to campsites on the island. Book early - the whole island gets busy during HebCelt week.
Best routes by origin. Inverness-based crew have the most cost-effective option: a short drive to Ullapool then the ferry, or a 40-minute Loganair hop. Glasgow and Edinburgh crew typically fly direct or drive to Ullapool for the ferry - factor in a full day of travel each way when pricing the job.
HebCelt Festival crew - the Scotland circuit
HebCelt sits within a wider Scottish festival crew circuit. Crew who make the island trip often string multiple events together across the Scottish summer.
Belladrum Tartan Heart Festival (near Beauly, Inverness-shire, July/August, around 15,000 capacity) is the closest major event logistically for crew coming through Inverness. HebCelt crew often move straight from Lewis to Belladrum, with Inverness as the staging point for both.
TRNSMT (Glasgow Green, July) is Scotland's biggest city festival and runs close to HebCelt in the calendar - both fall in mid-July, so crew may choose one or the other rather than overlap.
Celtic Connections (Glasgow, January) extends the Scottish traditional music circuit into the winter calendar - a different crew shape (venue-based rather than outdoor), but the same booker network.
Edinburgh Fringe (August) follows the Scottish summer festival run and creates a large temporary crew demand across the capital for most of the month.
